Spotlight: Rebecca’s Impact at Sweetie Boy Transportation

Rebecca has been a driving force behind Sweetie Boy Transportation’s continued growth and strong commitment to safety. She joined the team in October 2024 and played a key role in opening our newest hub in Winston-Salem, NC. With how fast-paced and demanding this location is, keeping operations efficient and running smoothly is no small task, but with Rebecca’s support, the hub has thrived. Her dedication and leadership quickly made her an invaluable part of the Sweetie Boy team.

From supporting day-to-day operations to building strong relationships with both staff and drivers, Rebecca made an immediate and lasting impact. As the company continued to grow, her passion for safety and eye for detail led her to step into leading Autopilot Safety, and she absolutely crushed it. Her leadership, commitment to doing things the right way, and genuine care for people helped strengthen our safety standards and boost morale across the board.

Thanks to her hard work and proven leadership, Rebecca has now been promoted to Director of Safety for both CDL and Autopilot, overseeing safety initiatives company-wide. Coming from a CDL safety background, she’s excited to take on this expanded role and bring fresh ideas and improvements to an already strong foundation. With safety being a major focus at Sweetie Boy, we’re thrilled to support her vision and continued growth.

One of Rebecca’s favorite parts of working at Sweetie Boy has been the people. “During my tenure with SBT, I’ve enjoyed getting to know the staff at the hub as well as the drivers, and I have truly enjoyed interacting with all the different personalities,” she shared. Her favorite memory so far? Driver Appreciation Week, seeing firsthand how much Sweetie Boy truly values its drivers (and yes, Marc in the pony suit definitely made the list).

We’re incredibly excited to have Rebecca leading safety for both divisions and can’t wait to see the continued impact she’ll make on our fleet, our drivers, and Sweetie Boy Transportation as a whole.

The Ugly Truth About Vehicle Shipping Brokers, And Why the Brokerage Is Broken

Unclear Delivery Timelines: Carriers often provide wide delivery windows, leaving customers in the dark about when their vehicles will arrive.

Poor Communication: Once a car is picked up, many customers struggle to get real-time updates.

Hidden Fees: Some companies advertise low prices only to add on unexpected fees later.

Lack of Accountability: When delays or damages happen, many carriers deflect responsibility or go silent.

“Squeezing the Carriers”: In many cases, brokers prioritize their own margins by paying carriers less and pocketing the difference. This creates a strained supply chain and results in lower customer service quality.

Vehicle transportation can often feel like handing over the keys, hoping for the best, and an unknown bill. Unfortunately, vehicle shipping has historically been plagued by vague timelines, poor communication, and hidden fees. At Sweetie Boy Transportation, we believe it’s time for a change.

How Sweetie Boy Builds Trust Through Transparency

Transparency is not just a strategy, it’s the Sweetie Boy standard. We don’t just run a typical brokerage; our team is bred from an asset-based company.

  1. Clear Communication: We prioritize regular, honest updates. Whether it’s a weather delay or a change in schedule, we let you know immediately. Our team is available, responsive, and dedicated to clear, open communication.
  2. Upfront Pricing: No surprises. We show the carrier cost plus our 15% fee. Customers know exactly what to expect. No hidden fees and no fine print.
  3. Complete Visibility, Every Step of the Way: Whether you are moving a single car across the country or managing dozens of vehicles each week, our team makes the process simple and seamless. With digital paperwork, prompt billing, and dedicated account support, you’ll always know what’s happening and when.
  4. Modern Equipment and Professional Drivers: Our fleet is made up of state-of-the-art equipment, and our drivers are experienced and professional. We maintain strict standards for safety and accountability to ensure your vehicle arrives safely and in the exact condition it left.
  5. Transparency Limits Margin Games: By being upfront about our pricing model and working directly with carriers, we avoid the common broker trap of squeezing drivers just to increase profit margins. Transparency ensures that carriers are paid fairly for their work, which improves performance and keeps the entire process more honest and efficient.

Confidence You Can Count On

Transparency isn’t optional in today’s logistics landscape, it’s essential. As vehicle shipping becomes more competitive, the companies that prioritize clarity, honesty, and accountability will stand out. At Sweetie Boy Transportation, we’re proud to be leading the charge.

Whether you’re shipping your personal vehicle or managing fleet logistics, let us show you what true transparency looks like. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about getting the vehicle from point A to point B, it’s about delivering peace of mind.

Stay Focused: It’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a time to shine a spotlight on a dangerous—and often underestimated—problem on our roads. Every day, distracted driving leads to preventable accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. Whether you’re driving a compact car or a commercial truck, staying focused behind the wheel is a responsibility that could save lives.

What Is Distracted Driving?

Distracted driving is anything that takes your attention away from the road. It comes in three forms:

Visual Distractions: Taking Your Eyes Off the Road

These are distractions that pull your eyes away from where they should be—on the road ahead.

  • Checking GPS
  • Looking at the radio
  • Looking at your phone
  • Billboards
  • Searching for items on your console or passenger seat

Even a glance away for 2 seconds at 55 mph is like driving the length of a football field with your eyes closed.

Manual Distractions: Taking Your Hands Off the Wheel

Manual distractions involve removing one or both hands from the steering wheel.

  • Texting
  • Taking a phone call
  • Turning up the radio
  • Eating and drinking
  • Smoking
  • Doing hair and makeup

If your hands aren’t on the wheel, your reaction time is significantly reduced in an emergency.

Cognitive Distractions: Taking Your Mind Off Driving

Even with eyes on the road and hands on the wheel, your mind can still drift—and that’s just as dangerous.

  • Daydreaming
  • Having a conversation
  • Drowsiness
  • Feeling preoccupied by other issues

It only takes one moment of mental distraction for a critical error to happen.

For Professional Drivers: Stay Sharp, Stay Safe

If you’re behind the wheel for a living—whether driving a car, pickup, or a semi—your focus is your most powerful safety tool. Distracted driving doesn’t just affect you; it puts your passengers, your cargo, and everyone else on the road at risk.

Tips to Avoid Distracted Driving:

  • Put your phone on Do Not Disturb before driving
  • Set your GPS and playlist before starting the engine
  • Avoid eating or multitasking behind the wheel
  • Take breaks if you’re feeling tired or mentally unfocused
  • Use hands-free options responsibly—when safe

Let’s Make a Difference

This April, take a stand against distracted driving. Talk to your team, your family, your kids. Share a reminder. Set an example. One second of distraction can cost everything.

Drive focused. Drive safe. Every trip, every time.

Our diesel techs are the The Behind-the-Scenes heroes, ensuring our trucks are in top condition before hitting the road. They perform regular maintenance and inspections, ensuring our fleet remains reliable and safe. Every detail matters when it comes to truck maintenance, and the team is dedicated to providing the best care for our trucks.

Auto Pilots: Precision and Care

For our Auto Pilots team, safety is just as essential as it is for our CDL drivers. We trust them to handle our clients’ vehicles with care, precision, and the utmost respect. Each car is treated like it’s our own, ensuring it’s secured properly before transport. Their attention to detail makes sure that your car arrives in perfect condition, giving you peace of mind every step of the way.

Everyone Plays a Role in Safety

At Sweetie Boy, safety isn’t just the responsibility of one team or department. It’s a collective effort. From our office staff to the drivers on the road, we all contribute to the safe delivery of each vehicle. Our safety protocols are ingrained in everything we do – from the way we load vehicles to how we navigate challenging weather conditions, and even the way we communicate with our customers.

When you choose Sweetie Boy, you’re not just choosing a transport service; you’re choosing a company that cares about the safety of your vehicle and the people who make it all possible. “Safety First” is more than just a motto – it’s the standard we live by every day.

Safe driving tips: New Year’s Eve

Driving safely on New Year’s Eve is crucial, as the roads can be more dangerous due to increased traffic, impaired drivers, and festive distractions. Here are some tips to help ensure a safe journey:

  1. Have a designated driver
    • If you plan on drinking, don’t drive! Have a designated driver, use a ride-share service, or take public transportation!
  2. Drive defensively
    • Expect other drivers to be unpredictable, you never know who is impaired or distracted. Keep a safe distance from other drivers and be prepared to react quickly.
  3. Avoid driving late at night
    • Late-night hours, especially after midnight, are peak times for impaired driving. If possible, avoid being on the roads late.
  4. Take your time
    • New Year’s Eve is about celebrating safely. There’s no need to rush. Take your time to drive carefully, arrive safely, and enjoy the festivities without the stress of trying to beat the clock.

By following these tips, you can help ensure you and others stay safe while celebrating the arrival of the new year!

Navigating Snow and Ice: A Guide to Safe Winter Driving

Driving in snow and ice can be daunting, but with the right precautions, you can stay safe on the road. Here are a few essential tips to help you stay safe while driving in snow and ice.

  1. Pre-trip check
    • Before leaving, make sure your vehicle is winter-ready.
      • Check your tires: Ensure that your tires have sufficient tread and are properly inflated. Consider switching to winter tires if you live in an area with heavy snow. These tires are specifically designed to provide better traction in cold temperatures and slippery conditions.
      • Check your battery: Cold temperatures can place extra strain on your car battery, which can lead to failure. Have your battery tested regularly and replace it if it’s showing signs of wear.
      • Test your brakes: Properly functioning brakes are essential, especially in winter conditions. If your brakes feel off, get them checked right away. Don’t take any risks when it comes to braking.
  2. Drive slow and steady
    • When the roads are covered in snow and ice, the best thing you can do is slow down.
      • Reduce Speed: Snow and ice reduce traction, making it harder to stop quickly. Reducing your speed gives you more time to react to sudden obstacles or changes in road conditions.
      • Leave Extra Space: Increase the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. On slippery roads, stopping distances are longer, and more space gives you the time needed to avoid a potential collision.
  3. Avoid sudden movements
    • Sudden movements can be dangerous in winter weather. Keeping a steady, controlled approach is key to staying in control of your vehicle.
      • Steer smoothly: Abrupt steering can cause your vehicle to slide, especially on icy patches. Make all turns and adjustments in your steering slowly and deliberately to maintain control.
      • Brake gently: When braking, do so gently and avoid slamming on the brakes, as this can cause your vehicle to skid. If your car has anti-lock brakes (ABS), apply steady pressure to the brake pedal. For vehicles without ABS, gently pump the brakes to avoid skidding.
      • Accelerate slowly: Fast acceleration can cause your tires to spin, especially on icy roads. Ease onto the gas pedal gradually to avoid losing traction.

Driving in snow and ice requires extra caution and preparation. By getting your car winter-ready, driving cautiously, and knowing how to respond to dangerous conditions, you can significantly reduce your risk of accidents in winter weather. Remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry when navigating snowy roads. Happy and safe driving this winter season!

Discussing Driver Safety With Director of Hub Operations and AutoPilot Safety Hayden Nachtigal

Creating a safe work environment for drivers is a large part of who Sweetie Boy Transportation is today. In 2020 the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that more than 1 in 3 long-haul truck drivers experienced a serious crash during their time working on the road. 127 people were reported to have been injured in a crash while driving for work. Mitigating this risk is discussed with AutoPilots and Car Haulers alike every day. Director of Hub Operations and AutoPilot Safety, Hayden Nachtigal speaks about how Sweetie Boy works to make safety a top priority for all employees.

With over 200 employees, and most of them being on the road, making sure that everyone is being safe on the road is no small task. The professional transportation industry has nailed down this issue with the creation of apps such as Samsara, which Sweetie Boy uses to monitor CDL drivers. The drive service market for such apps is newer, but over time Sweetie Boy has found ways to monitor safe driving. Hayden Nachtigal speaks about how we measure our AutoPilot’s safe driving by saying, “ We use Mentor by eDriving to measure our driver’s overall safety. With the app tracking 5 major categories: Speeding, Distractions, Hard Accelerations, Harsh Braking, and Cornering”. The app uses these metrics to create a score out of 850, much like a FICO credit score. By analyzing the scores throughout the company, Sweetie Boy is able to accurately measure how safe AutoPilots are on the road. The Director of Hub Operations and AutoPilot safety goes on to speak about how these analytics are important to improving the safety metrics of the apps drivers use, “ The Mentor program we use is ever evolving and sometimes requires us to pass along the information to Mentor to improve the program”.

Safety is constantly at the forefront of Sweetie Boy’s mission. Hayden says, “We are extremely focused on being safe everyday. Once our drivers punch in or put on their safety vest they are professional drivers”. Every day our drivers are held to a higher standard, and the effort drivers, dispatch and hub managers put in shows that. Giving drivers a clear understanding of how their Mentor score works is a part of that, “(We have) Monthly safety meetings going over trends and specific topics we need to improve on as a company with safety. Daily and weekly coachings by the AutoPilots specific manager, going into the detail about each infraction to understand the situation that led to the infraction. This way the driver learns and improves their overall driving”. AutoPilots have also turned to a friendly competition, comparing safety scores to see who can do the best at each hub.

Overall, safety is the top priority of office staff and drivers at Sweetie Boy. Whether it’s abiding by federal standards or finding ways to go above and beyond those expectations, Sweetie Boy’s team works hard to ensure the safety of all drivers on staff. Unsafe driving is corrected, and the safety standards are always upheld and maintained.

Thank you to Hayden Nachtigal for participating in this post and for speaking on AutoPilot safety within Sweetie Boy Transportation.
